Aubrey's economic development board will get its first look Tuesday, Oct. 13, at a concept for replacing the downtown building it shares with the chamber of commerce and the local history museum.

Eric James of the architecture firm Parkhill is scheduled to walk the Aubrey Municipal Development District board through a first draft of the plan for 205-209 S. Main St., according to the meeting packet. That property holds the MDD office, the Aubrey 380 Area Chamber of Commerce and the Aubrey Area Historical Museum.

The idea dates to Feb. 10, when the City Council and the MDD board met in a joint work session and talked about putting up a new building on the site. The board then hired Parkhill for a property survey, a design concept and estimates of what construction would cost.

Tuesday's item is a presentation and discussion only, with board feedback to the architect and no vote listed. The packet does not include drawings or a cost estimate.

Other downtown property on the table

Before the presentation, the board plans to meet in closed session on economic development negotiations, real estate and legal advice involving "Main Street Properties" and 916 US 377. The MDD had advertised that US 377 property, the former Aubrey Auto Parts store, for purchase, with bids due Sept. 30, according to the director's September report. Any action would have to come in open session.

The same report lists the MDD's building at 204-208 S. Main St. as available for sale or lease to a retail or restaurant tenant.

Business activity

Executive Director Christine Gossett's report also shows:

  • Bahama Bucks under construction or in tenant finish-out at 500 Pine Ridge, Suite 100
  • The Cut doing the same at 501 Pine Ridge, Suite 300, after the board approved a sign grant for it in September
  • more than 85 acres of commercial land and about 22,000 square feet of commercial building space listed for sale or lease in the city and its extraterritorial jurisdiction, with roughly 9,000 more square feet in development
  • a September sales tax payment to the MDD of $106,291.28

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 226 Countryside Drive.
