While most of North Texas plays on Aug. 28, Aubrey waits.
The Chaparrals, ranked No. 251 in Texas by On3, open their 2026 season a week later, hosting Van Alstyne on Friday, Sept. 4. Van Alstyne is ranked No. 410.
What follows
Aubrey travels to Sanger, ranked No. 323, on Sept. 11, then to Castleberry, ranked No. 667, on Sept. 25. The most demanding game on the nine-game schedule is Alvarado, ranked No. 67 in the state.
A later start
Opening a week after everyone else means Aubrey's players get an extra week of preparation and one fewer Friday of football. For a program in a town growing as quickly as Aubrey, the home opener against a neighboring school is a reasonable way to begin.
Kickoff against Van Alstyne is Friday, Sept. 4. Rankings are On3's preseason Texas rankings.
