Chris Jimerson Jr. needed one throw to turn a short North Texas possession into a long Houston Christian headache. His 41-yard touchdown connection with Justin Stevenson in the second quarter pushed the Mean Green’s lead to 28-14, and it introduced the evening’s most interesting feature: North Texas kept changing quarterbacks without allowing the offense to lose its shape.
North Texas won 63-14 at DATCU Stadium in Denton. Tayven Jackson produced most of the passing yardage, Jimerson added a long touchdown before halftime, and Chaston Ditta supplied passing and rushing scores after the break. Houston Christian had to defend all three in a game that was tied early in the second quarter.
Jimerson’s touchdown came immediately after Keshawn Davila intercepted Houston Christian quarterback Maddox Kopp. Jackson began the three-play, 61-yard march with a 6-yard completion to Jahiem White and a 14-yard throw to Kyle Koch. Jimerson then took the next snap and found Stevenson for the score with 8:13 remaining in the first half.
The sequence was efficient without being complicated: Jackson helped move the ball into workable territory, and Jimerson supplied the sudden finish. Jimerson completed both of his attempts, totaling 55 passing yards and a touchdown, while adding 41 yards on four carries. His 11-yard run late in the first quarter showed that his contribution was not limited to an occasional trick of the playbook.
In the fourth quarter, he also broke loose for 17 yards on the possession that consumed the final minutes.
Jackson provided the foundation. Jackson completed 16 of his 18 throws, gaining 270 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Eight receivers caught his passes, and ten Mean Green players made receptions across the game. That spread of contributions gave the offense much more than a single productive connection.
The opening drive established the range. Jackson hit Max Reese for 38 yards, and North Texas soon reached the end zone on White’s 24-yard run. After Houston Christian tied the score at 14 on Kopp’s 26-yard rushing touchdown, Jackson answered with another useful, varied possession.
He found Corri Milliner for 15 yards, then Reese for 24, and later Josiah Martin for 21 yards to the 3-yard line. White finished that march with a short touchdown run.
That response was important because Houston Christian had briefly made the game look less tidy. North Texas did not need Jackson to force a spectacular rescue throw. Completions and White’s carries took the offense 75 yards to restore the lead. North Texas went on to score three touchdowns during the quarter, reaching halftime ahead 35-14.
Jackson’s best burst came after another Houston Christian mistake. Following Davila’s interception, Jackson’s completions to White and Koch moved the Mean Green across midfield before Jimerson’s scoring pass. With the half winding down, Jackson then struck Grayson O’Bara for 43 yards and added a 9-yard completion to the same receiver on the next play.
