Dallas Finds the Equalizer

The Dallas Stars erased a third-period deficit but could not finish the comeback, falling to the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in a shootout Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

Tyler Seguin tied the game for Dallas in the third period, and Rickard Rakell scored the deciding shootout goal for Pittsburgh. The result gave the Penguins the win after the teams finished regulation tied 1-1.

Third-Period Trade

Pittsburgh opened the scoring in the third when Connor Dewar collected his first goal, scoring on a backhand with an assist from Blake Lizotte. Dallas answered when Seguin scored his first goal on a tip-in, assisted by Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen.

Neither team scored in the first or second period. The period-by-period line was Dallas 0-0-1-0-0 and Pittsburgh 0-0-1-0-1, with the shootout settling the game after a scoreless overtime period.

Shootout Decides It

The shootout featured goals from Pittsburgh’s Ben Kindel and Sidney Crosby, followed by Dallas’ Seguin and Wyatt Johnston. Rakell then scored for the Penguins, giving Pittsburgh the deciding conversion.

Dewar led Pittsburgh with one goal, while Lizotte had one assist. Seguin finished with one goal for Dallas, and Heiskanen recorded one assist.

Records

The Penguins improved to 3-2-1 with seven points. The Stars moved to 2-2-1 with five points.

Pittsburgh was the home team, and the announced attendance was 18,192.
