Late Inning Surge
The Houston Astros found themselves trailing against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park before a dramatic late-inning rally changed the outcome. After trading blows through seven innings and tying the game in the ninth, Houston broke the deadlock in the 10th to secure a 6-3 victory.
The contest began with both teams exchanging early insurance runs via sacrifice flies. In the first inning, Jose Altuve’s hit flew to left field, allowing Yordan Alvarez to cross home plate for a 1-0 lead. The Giants responded in the fourth when Mike Yastrzemski’s sacrifice fly lifted Joey Bart to equalize at 1-1.
Power hitting defined the middle frames. In the fifth, Alex Bregman launched a solo home run to right field, stretching Houston’s advantage to 2-1. However, San Francisco answered in the seventh with back-to-back home runs. Matt Chapman drove one to left field for a 2-2 tie, followed immediately by Mike Yastrzemski clearing the gap to right center to put the Giants ahead 3-2.
The Giants’ lead held until the bottom of the ninth inning. When the game remained tied at 2-2 going into the top of the ninth, the Astros mounted a late rally. With one out, Jeremy Peña singled to right field, allowing Yordan Alvarez to score and tie the game at 3-3 after advancing to second base.
Extra Innings Decide It
The deadlock persisted until the 10th inning, where Houston delivered the decisive blows. Jeremy Peña opened the frame with a single to left field, scoring Yordan Alvarez to give Houston a 4-3 lead. Two batters later, Isaac Paredes doubled to left field, driving in Peña and Kyle Tucker to extend the advantage to 6-3.
Hayden Wesneski started for Houston, pitching seven innings while allowing five hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts. Steven Okert pitched a scoreless tenth inning. Josh Hader closed out the game over two hitless frames, earning the win and improving his record to 4-1.
