Kansas State trails early
Kansas State could not erase an 18-point halftime deficit Saturday, falling 35-16 to Houston at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas. The Wildcats, the home team, trailed 21-3 at halftime after Houston scored three touchdowns and Kansas State managed one field goal.
Houston quarterback Conner Weigman connected with Patrick Overmyer for a 1-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, followed by Jonathan Dimas’ kick. Kansas State answered with Luis Rodriguez’s 29-yard field goal to make the score 7-3.
Houston builds its lead
Overmyer caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Weigman in the second quarter, and Dimas added the kick for a 14-3 Houston lead. Makhi Hughes then ran 13 yards for another Houston touchdown, with Dimas’ kick making it 21-3.
The Cougars added two more touchdowns in the third quarter. Overmyer caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Weigman, and Dimas converted the kick. Later in the period, Overmyer caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Weigman for his fourth touchdown reception, followed by another Dimas kick.
Wildcats add two touchdowns
Kansas State scored twice after halftime. Garrett Oakley caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Avery Johnson in the third quarter, but the two-point pass conversion failed, leaving the score 28-9. Jaron Tibbs caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Johnson in the fourth quarter, and Rodriguez kicked the extra point to make the final score 35-16.
