President Donald Trump spent Thursday afternoon at Peterbilt's plant in Denton, about 11 miles southwest of Aubrey, where he recognized several members of Congress, including Rep. Brandon Gill, who represents all of Aubrey in the 26th District, according to the Denton Record-Chronicle.
The event was closed to the public and drew a crowd of Peterbilt workers. Trump said the plant builds about 200 trucks a day and credited his tariff policy for its recent hiring; the company said 1,000 jobs were added at the Denton facility. He also campaigned for Senate nominee Ken Paxton.
Local leaders in the room included Denton Mayor Chris Watts, UNT President Harrison Keller and Texas Woman's University Chancellor Carine Feyten. Democrats described the stop as a sign Republicans are worried about the midterms, and RNC officials said the trip was building enthusiasm among Republicans.
Gill faces Democrat Steven Shook on Nov. 3.
