Spurs Drop Preseason Opener to Hawks

The San Antonio Spurs lost 123-116 to the visiting Atlanta Hawks in a preseason game on Thursday, Oct. 8, at Frost Bank Center. It was San Antonio's first exhibition of the fall, leaving the Spurs 0-1 in the preseason, while the Hawks improved to 1-1. The game drew 18,354 fans.

Early Lead Slips Away

The Spurs finished the first quarter up 39-20. Atlanta responded by winning the second period 42-30, though San Antonio still led 69-62 at halftime. The Hawks took the third quarter 31-26 to pull within 95-93, then outscored the Spurs 30-21 in the fourth to win by seven.

Key Performances

For the Spurs, Dylan Harper led the team with 16 points and added four assists. Stephon Castle and David Jones Garcia scored 14 points apiece, and Keldon Johnson grabbed seven rebounds. Victor Wembanyama had nine points and six rebounds in 17 minutes.

Asa Newell matched Harper's 16 points for the Hawks, scoring 11 of them in the last six minutes. Kingston Flemings had 15 points and five assists, and Dyson Daniels pulled down 11 rebounds.
