Spurs Face Early Deficit

The San Antonio Spurs came up short against the Phoenix Suns, falling 102-98 Saturday at Mortgage Matchup Center. Luke Kennard scored 20 points for Phoenix, which held off San Antonio after the Spurs made a late push.

San Antonio trailed 35-25 after the first quarter and went into halftime down 58-51. Dylan Harper led the Spurs with 15 points, while Victor Wembanyama supplied six assists and Luke Kornet pulled down 10 rebounds.

Phoenix Builds Its Lead

The Suns extended the margin during the third quarter, outscoring San Antonio 27-22 to take an 85-73 advantage into the final period. Phoenix's offense included three-point baskets from Kennard and Khaman Maluach during the quarter, while Maluach finished with 15 rebounds.

Jalen Green added five assists for Phoenix. The Suns also received scoring from several players as they maintained their lead through three quarters.

San Antonio's Fourth-Quarter Push

The Spurs answered with their strongest scoring quarter, putting up 25 points in the fourth while Phoenix scored 17. San Antonio reduced the deficit to four points at 102-98 after Maliq Brown made a 26-foot 3-point jumper, but the Spurs did not score again.

Phoenix had opened the fourth with a 12-point lead. San Antonio's fourth-quarter scoring included three baskets from Tarris Reed Jr. and a pair of 3-pointers from Brown, but the Suns preserved the victory.

Records

The result left Phoenix with a 1-2 record and San Antonio at 0-2. The Suns were the home team, while the Spurs played as the visitors.
