Gillespie leads San Antonio

San Antonio’s fourth-quarter surge could not erase the deficit against Utah, and the Spurs fell 119-109 to the Jazz in a preseason game Monday at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Ja’Kobi Gillespie led San Antonio with 25 points, including three 3-pointers during a late stretch that helped the Spurs outscore Utah 31-20 in the fourth quarter.

Jordan McLaughlin finished with six assists for San Antonio, while Tarris Reed Jr. collected 17 rebounds. Gillespie’s three consecutive 3-pointers cut the deficit to 112-99, and a Jon Elmore basket later made it 114-107. Gillespie’s driving layup closed the scoring.

Utah builds its advantage

The Jazz opened the game with a 33-26 edge and maintained that margin through a 35-35 second quarter. Utah led 68-61 at halftime, then took control in the third by outscoring San Antonio 31-17. The Jazz entered the fourth quarter with a 99-78 advantage.

Darryn Peterson paced Utah with 14 points and five assists. Mo Bamba had nine rebounds for the Jazz. Utah also received a 3-pointer from Josh Okogie and baskets from Isaiah Collier and Mo Bamba during the third-quarter run that expanded the lead.

San Antonio answered by scoring 31 points in the fourth. The Spurs’ 21-point deficit after three quarters was reduced to 10 by the final horn, but Utah completed the victory.

Records and venue

The result left Utah with a 2-1 preseason record and San Antonio at 0-3. The Jazz were the home team, and the Spurs were the visiting team. Attendance at Delta Center was 15,495.
