Nico Collins has been ruled out of Houston’s Sunday meeting with the Indianapolis Colts because of a hamstring injury. The Texans wide receiver missed practice during the week and is dealing with a Grade 1 strain sustained at practice last week. He also did not play in Houston’s loss to Cincinnati. Sports Yahoo reported the decision, citing NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Both Houston and Indianapolis are 0-2, with each team seeking its first victory. Houston scored six points in a 20-6 defeat to the Bengals. The Colts have given up 354 rushing yards over two games, allowing 5.4 yards per carry.
Dalton Schultz may have a larger role for Houston. The tight end had 12 catches on 14 targets against Cincinnati, gaining 140 yards and making eight of those receptions in the fourth quarter. Through two games, Schultz has 16 receptions for 175 yards, the team’s highest totals in both categories.
Houston could turn to additional tight ends or emphasize its running game. David Montgomery and Woody Marks had limited results against Cincinnati, as the Texans’ running backs averaged 1.5 yards per carry. Other available receivers are Kayshon Boutte, Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Jared Wayne. No further information was provided about Collins’ recovery timeline.
