The Cowboys expect two defensive players to miss at least three weeks. Jonathan Bullard has a calf injury and is projected to be sidelined for three to five weeks, while safety Jalen Thompson is facing an absence of four weeks or more because of a hamstring problem. Bullard also spent most of training camp unavailable because of a previous injury.
The injuries occurred during Dallas' loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Rio. Cornerback Shavon Revel also sustained knee and ankle issues, but head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Tuesday that Revel was doing well and might practice this week. His availability for the Week 4 matchup against Houston has not been settled.
Thompson could be placed on injured reserve with a designation to return, joining safety P.J. Locke.
Dallas does not expect Cobie Durant to travel to South Texas while he recovers from a hamstring injury. Malik Hooker, who fractured his forearm in the season opener, might require more time before returning. DeMarvion Overshown, absent the last two games with a hamstring injury, could begin practicing this week.
The Cowboys have brought in several players for workouts, including former safety Juanyeh Thomas. The safety shortage is part of the personnel challenge for first-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker before Dallas visits the Texans, who remain winless.
