The Dallas Cowboys have secured two-time Super Bowl champion Von Miller with a one-year contract, aiming to bolster their pass rush. Miller, who has accumulated 136.5 sacks throughout his 14-season career, achieved 9.0 sacks last year while with Washington.

However, the signing has not been universally praised. Bryan Broaddus, a former Cowboys scout and current analyst for 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, voiced significant concerns about the acquisition. He characterized it as a low-impact decision that could prove harmful.

Broaddus remarked that Miller's recent performance does not meet the expectations for a starting player, suggesting that he would not have been signed if he were not a prominent figure in the league.

Broaddus highlighted Miller's diminished speed and closing ability, which are critical for a leading edge rusher. He proposed that the Cowboys might benefit more from utilizing James Houston, who is likely to be moved down the depth chart. Pro Football Focus ranked Miller 66th out of 119 edge rushers last season, while Houston was positioned at 49th.

In response to the critiques, Miller defended his signing by underscoring his potential impact beyond just gameplay. During his introductory press conference, he asserted his capability to contribute effectively and mentor younger players, stating, "I will be recognized for that in a Hall of Fame." The full implications of Miller's signing, both on the field and in the locker room, are yet to be determined.
