The University of Houston has announced that offensive guard Shadre Hurst earned a spot on the Preseason AP All-American First-Team. This accolade, revealed on Tuesday, underscores Hurst's significant impact on the football team.

Earlier this month, he was also recognized on the Lombardi Trophy and Outland Trophy Preseason Watch Lists. Hurst has a connection with head coach Willie Fritz and offensive line coach Eman Naghavi from their previous time at Tulane, where he received All-American honors and was recognized as an All-AAC player in The American Conference.

Hurst has shown remarkable talent on the field, achieving an 80.0 pass block grade in 2023, placing him second among active FBS offensive linemen. Over more than 1,200 passing snaps, he has permitted just one sack, demonstrating his dependability.

In 2025, he was acknowledged as the highest graded offensive lineman in the American Athletic Conference and ranked sixth nationally among guards by Pro Football Focus (PFF). During his time at Tulane, he played a pivotal role in winning three conference championships from 2022 to 2025, allowing only one sack throughout his four seasons.

The Cougars will kick off their new college football season on September 5, hosting Oregon State at TDECU Stadium, starting at 11 a.m.
