Dallas Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson left the game during the second quarter after his left leg turned awkwardly while he attempted a tackle. He could not put weight on it and went to the blue medical tent, where he was evaluated. Thompson is questionable to return because of a hamstring injury.
The injury adds to problems in Dallas’ secondary before the Week 3 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. Free safety Malik Hooker remains out because of a forearm injury suffered in Week 1. Starting cornerback Cobie Durant was sidelined in Week 2 with a hamstring problem. PJ Locke, who replaced Hooker, is also unavailable with a foot injury.
Dallas promoted slot defender Reddy Steward from its practice squad before the game. Rookie first-round selection Caleb Downs, who has college experience at safety, has been on the practice squad. Alijah Clark took Thompson’s place next to Markquese Bell.
Bell was called for a defensive pass interference penalty that helped set up a first-half touchdown by Derrick Henry. More information about Thompson’s condition and the effect on Dallas’ defensive approach was not available.
