Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte held a press conference to discuss his recent trade from the New England Patriots to the Houston Texans, marking his first comments since the move. This event occurred one week after the trade, during which Boutte shared his thoughts on joining the Texans and the circumstances leading to his exit from New England.
Boutte had sought a trade in the offseason, expressing a desire for a more significant role in the team. The signing of Romeo Doubs to a four-year deal worth $68 million and the acquisition of A.J. Brown through a trade involving first- and fifth-round draft picks changed the dynamics within the Patriots' wide receiver lineup.
As a result, Boutte found himself positioned as the fourth wide receiver in training camp, behind Doubs, Brown, and DeMario Douglas.
Despite a strong performance in the 2024 season, where he recorded 42 receptions totaling 719 yards and seven touchdowns, Boutte faced the risk of being inactive on game days. Head coach Mike Vrabel remarked on this after the preseason finale. Boutte responded to Vrabel’s assessment positively, indicating he would not let it affect his mindset and was focused on his new chapter with the Texans.
