Southern Methodist University has named Derek Gossler as its new Senior Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Generation. This appointment is part of the university's strategy to enhance its competitive position in the Atlantic Coast Conference by focusing on revenue generation, a critical aspect of modern college athletics.

Gossler comes to SMU with over 15 years of experience in fundraising, ticketing, and commercial strategy. He previously served at the University of Wyoming, where he significantly boosted cash and pledges through the Cowboy Joe Club and achieved record levels in premium seating and ticket revenue.

His prior experience includes a key role at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he helped secure five consecutive years of record fundraising.

At Arizona State University, Gossler played a vital role in raising $86 million during a major fundraising campaign and was instrumental in launching the men's hockey program through substantial donor contributions. His diverse background in various athletic departments positions him to effectively address SMU's needs as it operates within one of the largest and wealthiest markets in the country.

Gossler aims to maximize revenue through innovative strategies while strengthening relationships with fans, supporters, and corporate partners. His hiring reflects SMU's commitment to enhancing its athletic programs on a national level as the Mustangs transition into the ACC. Specific plans and initiatives for revenue generation at SMU have not yet been revealed.
