Texas Christian University is on the lookout for a new starting quarterback after Josh Hoover transferred to Indiana, the reigning national champions. Hoover's departure follows a season where TCU ended with an 8-4 record, which had initially sparked hopes for a successful run toward the Big 12 championship and potential NFL draft opportunities.
Before Hoover's announcement, TCU's personnel team had already begun scouting quarterback prospects, not foreseeing his transfer. General manager Ryan Dorchester mentioned that Hoover was considered a key player for the upcoming season, and his departure was unexpected. The Horned Frogs are seeking an upperclassman with one year of eligibility left, viewing high school signee Adam Schobel as their long-term solution at the position.
In response to Hoover's transfer, TCU quickly signed Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who performed well at Harvard for two seasons. Dorchester first identified Craig while reviewing film of a former Harvard receiver, praising Craig's efficiency, decisiveness, and strong arm. Despite Hoover's solid season performance, he did not garner significant NFL draft interest, leading TCU's coaching staff to believe he would stay.
However, head coach Sonny Dykes noted a shift in Hoover's mindset as the season concluded, suggesting a transfer was possible. Hoover officially communicated his decision to Dykes on December 17, shortly after TCU's offensive coordinator took a position at South Carolina.
