The Houston Texans are facing a setback as offensive tackle Braden Smith is anticipated to be sidelined for several weeks because of a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This injury was first highlighted during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, according to KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has confirmed that while there is concern regarding Smith's injury, it is not deemed severe and should not lead to a long-term absence. The Texans will likely require Smith's services at some point this season, as noted by Sleeper's Jacob Barzilla.
Signed during the offseason to a two-year, $20 million contract, Smith was expected to fill the starting right tackle role. However, his injury raises questions about the team's offensive line stability. ESPN's Adam Schefter mentioned that Smith's absence for a few weeks is a better scenario than more serious alternatives.
With Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl player, currently starting at right tackle, the Texans are also encouraged by the performance of Blake Fisher this preseason. Updates on Smith's recovery and the offensive line situation are expected as the season nears.
