The Houston Texans are bringing back Dare Ogunbowale to their 53-man roster before Week 4, giving the team four running backs as it prepares to host the Dallas Cowboys. Ogunbowale recently had a short stay with the Las Vegas Raiders.
David Montgomery and Woody Marks are expected to handle most of Houston's offensive snaps, while British Brooks could remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly order. The returning veteran is not expected to immediately alter the team's primary offensive options.
Ogunbowale played for Houston from 2022 through 2025, appearing in more than 60 games. He made 91 rushing attempts for 295 yards and three touchdowns, while his main role was on special teams. He also recorded more than 1,000 special-teams snaps during his four previous seasons with the Texans and served as a team captain last season.
The reason for the signing was not clear in the report. Sports Illustrated identified potential injury preparation and the need for an experienced special-teams and leadership option as possibilities. Head coach DeMeco Ryans has repeatedly praised Ogunbowale, according to the report.
