The Houston Texans have made roster changes due to injuries sustained in their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Graham Mertz has been placed on the Reserve/Injured list after an MRI confirmed a season-ending knee injury. Rookie running back Joshua Pitsenberger has also been added to the injured reserve due to an ankle injury he suffered just before the game concluded.
Mertz's injury occurred shortly before halftime, compounding the challenges faced by the Texans, who were already managing multiple injuries prior to the game. Other players on the injury report include Ja'Marcus Ingram with a shoulder issue, Collin Wright dealing with a soft tissue strain, and Jake Hansen who has an ankle injury.
Despite these setbacks, the Texans have been able to keep their starting lineup mostly unchanged, apart from linebacker E.J. Speed, who had a prior injury.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans and his coaching staff will evaluate their options closely as they prepare for further roster adjustments during training camp. The team is focused on maintaining performance and depth as they progress through the preseason. Additional roster moves are expected as the Texans assess the impact of these injuries on their upcoming games.
