Texas Falls to Oklahoma 27-24 on Tate Sandell’s 47-Yard Field Goal

Texas built a 17-7 halftime lead but Oklahoma rallied at home, with Tate Sandell’s 47-yard field goal providing the final points in a 27-24 Sooners victory.

Texas’ lead slips away

Texas surrendered the deciding points to Oklahoma on Tate Sandell’s 47-yard field goal, falling 27-24 Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Longhorns, the visiting team, led 24-17 in the fourth quarter before Oklahoma scored the final 10 points.

Arch Manning threw three touchdown passes for Texas and finished 19 of 31 for 260 yards, but he also was intercepted twice. Cam Coleman led the Longhorns with five receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown, while Jermaine Bishop Jr. also caught a touchdown pass.

Longhorns control first half

Texas opened the scoring in the first quarter when Manning connected with Coleman on a 41-yard touchdown pass. Gianni Spetic’s kick made it 7-0, matching the quarter score.

Oklahoma answered in the second quarter after Dakoda Fields returned a blocked punt 0 yards for a touchdown, with Sandell’s kick tying the game at 7-7. Texas moved back in front on Manning’s 34-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo, followed by Spetic’s kick, and Spetic added a 23-yard field goal. Texas led 17-7 at halftime.

Oklahoma’s late rally

Sandell made a 53-yard field goal in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 17-10 entering the fourth. Oklahoma then tied the game when Lloyd Avant scored on a 2-yard run and Sandell made the kick.

The Sooners took their first lead on Peyton Bowen’s 42-yard interception return, with Sandell’s kick making it 24-17. Texas answered when Manning found Bishop for a 15-yard touchdown, and Spetic’s kick tied the game at 24-24.

Sandell’s 47-yard field goal came next, giving Oklahoma the 27-24 final. Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer completed 18 of 26 passes for 155 yards. Avant carried 10 times for 72 yards and a touchdown, and Isaiah Sategna III had five receptions for 64 yards.

Records

Oklahoma improved to 3-2, while Texas fell to 4-1. The Sooners were the home team at the Cotton Bowl, where attendance was 92,100.
