The Oakland Athletics found themselves in a deep hole early and never truly recovered. After allowing seven runs over the first five innings, the A’s offense finally produced some life in the eighth, but it was not nearly enough to challenge the Texas Rangers’ dominance. The final score stood at 8-1 on Tuesday, September 1, at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
Scoring Breakdown
The damage began in the second inning when the Rangers loaded the bases against Athletics starter Gage Jump. Nimmo scored on a groundout by Díaz, and Burger came home on Freeman’s single to center, giving Texas an early 2-0 lead. The Rangers extended their advantage in the third inning as Seager scored on Nimmo’s single to center.
By the fourth inning, Foscue added another run with a home run to left center, making it 4-0.
The fifth inning proved decisive for the game’s outcome. Nimmo drove in Duran with a sacrifice fly to left, followed by Burger’s single that scored Seager. Langford then crossed the plate on Carter’s fielder’s choice to first, pushing the margin to 7-0.
The Athletics’ offense remained dormant until the eighth inning when Freeman singled to left, allowing O’Hoppe to score and cut the deficit to 7-1.
In the ninth inning, Hernaiz hit a sacrifice fly to center, bringing Cortes home for the final run of the game, making the score 8-1.
