The Angels took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning. Luis R. Duran opened the scoring with a home run to left center, followed by a triple from O'Hoppe that scored Freeman. Diaz added to the lead with a sacrifice fly that brought in Freeman.
The Angels extended their advantage to 4-0 in the fifth inning when Diaz hit another home run to left center. Seager scored on a sacrifice fly by Nimmo to make it 5-0, though Langford advanced to third base. The Rangers remained scoreless through seven innings, facing the arm of Yusei Kikuchi, who pitched five innings while allowing seven hits and five earned runs.
The momentum shifted in the bottom of the eighth inning. Neto launched a home run to left center, cutting the deficit to one. Lowe followed with a sacrifice fly to left that allowed Ballesteros to score.
