The homebuilder behind two Aubrey-area neighborhoods has a new owner. Century Communities, a publicly traded builder based in Colorado, said it has acquired substantially all of the assets of HistoryMaker Homes, the Grapevine company that traces its start to Fort Worth in 1949.

HistoryMaker's website lists two communities under Aubrey, Keeneland and Saratoga, both zoned to Aubrey ISD. Century's announcement says construction, sales and closings will continue as scheduled and that buyers already under contract will keep working with their local HistoryMaker team.

What changes

Century said the purchase triples the number of communities it has in Dallas-Fort Worth and adds to its supply of lots. Its existing North Texas operation will merge with HistoryMaker into a single division based in Grapevine, with HistoryMaker's division leaders and staff joining Century. Terms were not disclosed, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Two HistoryMaker sister companies are not part of the sale. Jabez Development, which develops residential land, and ONM Living, a build-to-rent company, stay independently owned, according to the announcement. Century said it will keep working with Jabez, which will finish land development on some communities for Century, and that the two expect to look for more land deals in the region together.

Who is buying

Century operates in 16 states and more than 45 markets, according to the release. The company sold about 10,800 homes and had home sales revenue of about $3.9 billion in 2025, The Dallas Morning News reported, citing its annual report.

Ryan Houck, Century's regional president for Texas, told the newspaper the company sits outside the top 10 builders in local market share and wants to reach the top five. He said the company has been expanding its offerings for move-up buyers, buyers who already own a first home and are ready for the next one, and that HistoryMaker had begun moving in the same direction.

HistoryMaker has built about 25,000 homes, according to the release. Its CEO, Nelson Mitchell, said his family had built homes for five generations and picked a partner that shares its commitment to "quality, integrity and the customer experience."
