Commercial vehicles could soon be barred from parking overnight on the streets of the Silverado and High Country subdivisions, under an agreement Denton County commissioners take up Tuesday morning.
The Commissioners Court has a public hearing set for 9 a.m. Oct. 13 at the Denton County Administrative Courthouse, 1 Courthouse Drive in Denton, followed by a possible vote.
The item is an amended and restated interlocal agreement between the county and The Lakes Fresh Water Supply District of Denton County, the special district whose roads serve Silverado West, Silverado East and High Country in commissioners Precinct 1.
According to the county's agenda memo, the new version repeats the traffic rules already in place and adds a ban on overnight parking by commercial vehicles in every subdivision within the district. The published hearing notice describes the same prohibition. The posted documents do not define which vehicles count as commercial or say how the ban would be enforced, and they list no financial impact.
Why the county is involved
The roads belong to the water district, not the county. State law lets a commissioners court sign a contract with a special district to apply county traffic rules to district-owned public roads when the court finds it is in the county's interest, the memo says, and the court must hold a public hearing before issuing any such rule.
Commissioners set Tuesday's hearing at their Sept. 22 meeting.
If commissioners approve the agreement after the hearing, the memo says, the traffic regulation takes effect at that point.
