The Aubrey Area Library stands to receive $35,900 from Denton County in the 2026-27 fiscal year, according to the county's library funding schedule for fiscal 2027.

The schedule, attached to an interlocal library agreement on the Little Elm Town Council's Oct. 13 agenda, lists what each of 11 city libraries in the county would get. Together they total $482,700.

How Aubrey's share is figured

The county pays libraries about 35 cents per person served, at a rate of $0.353770, and adds $10,000 in matching money for nine of the 11.

For Aubrey, the table counts 26,784 residents in the towns the library serves: 10,491 in Aubrey, 12,256 in Providence Village, 2,037 in Krugerville and 2,000 in Cross Roads, which the table lists as Providence and Crossroads. The table also lists a county allocation of 46,266, for a total service population of 73,050.

That works out to $25,843 on a per-person basis plus the $10,000 match, rounded to $35,900.

How other libraries compare

Lewisville's library has the largest amount on the list at $135,900, followed by Flower Mound at $77,900, Little Elm at $70,500 and The Colony at $56,100. Among smaller libraries nearby, Pilot Point is listed at $18,300, Sanger at $19,900 and Krum at $16,500. Flower Mound and Lewisville do not receive the $10,000 match.

Under the version of the agreement Little Elm is considering, a library taking county money must give a free card to any county resident who shows proof of residence and must keep internet filters on public computers. The schedule does not show when Aubrey's own agreement goes before its City Council, which next meets Oct. 22.

The library, at 226 Countryside Drive, can be reached at 940-365-9162.
