Lunch at Aubrey High School now moves through five serving lines instead of three, and this month every Aubrey ISD campus is taking part in a state-run challenge to put Texas-grown food on trays.
The high school marked the end of its cafeteria and kitchen renovation with a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Sept. 22, The Post-Signal reported. The district's Child Nutrition department and Aramark, its food service provider, hosted the event and handed out samples of new menu items along with snacks from a new grab-and-go station.
More room to serve
Principal Vanessa Zavar told the paper the expansion lets the school offer more food choices and get them out faster during lunch periods. She said the layout was planned in detail, down to where coolers and warmers sit along the serving line, and that the cooler and freezer were built on site.
Kristy Holt, the district's director of child nutrition, said each of the new lines has its own section and equipment, which makes the operation more efficient and the kitchen a better place to work. Coleen Laxalt, Aramark's food service director and its liaison with the district, said the team wants to bring in more inventive menu items.
