Pilot Point ISD trustees have sent Superintendent Shannon Fuller and district Police Chief Eric Dortch home on paid administrative leave following a complaint against both, according to a letter the board sent families Wednesday evening, the Denton Record-Chronicle reported Thursday.

The letter does not say what the complaint involves, and the board said no further information about it is available. Trustees described the step as a precaution taken while an independent review is underway and said they have reached no findings.

The board said any action it has taken is "solely to remain consistent with the procedure utilized for employees involved in a complaint."

Who is running the district and its police

Attorney Scott Cummings has been retained by the board to lead the third-party inquiry.

The district's lawyers are in talks with "an identified individual" to serve temporarily as acting superintendent. The board said it will name that person once an agreement is reached.

Officer Leslie "Dee" Carter is serving as acting police chief. Carter came to the district's force in May 2025 and brings 16 years of police work, roughly eight of them in school settings.

Background

Fuller became superintendent in March 2024 and has more than 30 years in education. Dortch was hired by the district's department in August 2024 and took over as chief in July 2025, with more than 13 years as a licensed peace officer.

The district's published calendar listed a regular school board meeting for Wednesday, Oct. 14, the same day the letter went out. The next regular meeting on that calendar is Nov. 11.

Pilot Point sits just north of Aubrey on U.S. 377.
