Aubrey's Parks and Recreation Board meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the City Council Chambers at 226 Countryside Drive to hear where the city's park projects stand.
The agenda has two briefings from Kurt Karnowski, the city's public works manager: a general update on current and upcoming park projects and a report on Keep Aubrey Beautiful. Staff reports say the board will also get a chance to discuss priorities and future improvements. Neither item calls for a vote.
The board's only action item is approving minutes from its Aug. 4 meeting. Residents can speak during citizen input, with a three-minute limit.
Where the projects stand
The most recent public works report, included in the packet for the Sept. 24 City Council meeting and covering August, gives a snapshot of several park-related projects:
- Sports complex: engineers were working on 90% plans, and the city had received a 60% opinion of probable cost, the estimate engineers prepare as a design advances.
- Veterans Park Phase 2: punch-list items were finished, and the project had final acceptance.
- Palomino: crews were working on a city park and a dog park in the development, putting in irrigation and electric service at both.
- Downtown parking and drainage: utilities and subgrade work were complete, and paving had started as of Sept. 9.
The same report shows the city collected $160,500 in parks fees in August, along with water, sewer and roadway impact fees, as builders pulled 159 permits for new houses that month. The city has issued 647 new single-family permits so far in 2026, with 103 of August's permits in High Country.
