Darrion Williams has signed with Texas Tech for the 2026-27 season, marking his return to the program after a year at NC State. Head coach Grant McCasland confirmed the signing, which comes as a result of a recent court ruling.
Williams previously played two seasons at Texas Tech and had an All-Big 12 First Team junior year in 2024-25, averaging 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. He earned All-Big 12 First Team honors and helped lead the Red Raiders to the Elite Eight in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
Last season at NC State, he led the team with an average of 14.0 points per game, alongside 151 rebounds and 92 assists.
The court ruling from a U.S. District Court judge in Colorado allows players from the high school class of 2022, who have exhausted their fourth season of eligibility, to compete for a fifth season. This decision has opened up opportunities for programs like Texas Tech, which had already finalized its roster for the season.
For Texas Tech, Williams' return means an All-Big 12 First Team selection will be back in the conference. His previous success will set high expectations for his performance this year.
