Aubrey High School's marching band will spend Veterans Day on the field at the Alamodome.

The band, known as the Pride of Aubrey, won the 4A Area B contest on Saturday, Oct. 31, the first Area championship in the program's history, the Post-Signal reported. The win sends the band to the UIL State Marching Band Championships for a third consecutive year.

Kennedale, Krum, Springtown, Alvarado and China Spring also advanced from Area B, according to the Post-Signal.

When Aubrey marches

The 4A preliminary round runs all day Wednesday, Nov. 11, in San Antonio, with 28 bands from across the state. Under the schedule UIL posted, Aubrey is the 13th band on the field and performs at 12:15 p.m., after Cooper-Liberty and ahead of Sulphur Springs. Krum closes the prelims at 4:15 p.m.

Finalists are to be announced at 4:45 p.m., and the 4A finals follow that evening. UIL lists single-session tickets at $22 plus fees, or $38 plus fees for a pass covering both the prelims and finals sessions.

A show built to peak late

Director of Bands Jason Noyes told the Post-Signal this year's show was built to peak in late October and November, which made it hard for every section to pull together earlier in the fall.

"Everything's coming together at the right time," Noyes said, according to the paper.

The band reached the state finals last year and placed fourth, a student leader told the Post-Signal. This fall's group mixes seniors who began marching as eighth graders with first-year members.

Noyes said the trophy is not the point of the program. "Music education, it's not about trophies," he told the Post-Signal, adding that what he values most is watching students improve from one year to the next.
