Denton ISD started the school year with 32,499 students, 678 fewer than last fall, according to a demographer's report scheduled for a trustee workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

The fall enrollment and housing report, prepared by Zonda Education, still expects the district to grow again later in the decade. It projects roughly 32,875 students in 2031-32 and 35,151 in 2036-37, after two more flat years.

Campuses serving the Aubrey area

Sandbrock Ranch Elementary is one of three elementary schools in the report already over the 740-student capacity listed for each campus, along with Evers Park and Shultz. It has 752 students this fall, and the forecast puts it at 768 next year and 803 by 2036-37, staying above 740 in most years.

Providence Elementary has 417 students and is projected to hold near 425 for the next decade. Both schools are campuses where Aubrey police officers have worked as school resource officers under the city's agreement with the district.

Elsewhere in the district, Savannah Elementary is forecast to fall from 670 to 469 students over 10 years and Union Park Elementary from 732 to 606. Navo Middle School, at 597, is projected to peak at 763 in 2029-30. Braswell High, at 2,654 against a 2,800-seat capacity, would cross that line in 2032-33 and reach 3,017 a year later before easing.

The subdivision behind the numbers

The report profiles several neighborhoods still building out. Sandbrock Ranch, the largest listed, has 2,545 total lots, with 1,996 homes occupied, 50 under construction and 66 finished homes awaiting buyers as of September. Builders started 137 homes there and closed on 191 in the prior 12 months, with prices starting around $390,000. Roads were being paved for a 123-lot 14th phase.

Districtwide, Zonda counts about 800 new homes in active inventory, roughly 4,000 lots ready to build on and about 23,300 more planned. Groundwork is underway on more than 1,800 lots in 14 subdivisions, and about 5,100 apartment and rental units are under construction.

The report also notes that new-home closings across Dallas-Fort Worth fell 12.4% over the past year.

No vote is attached to the report, which trustees will hear during their regular meeting that evening at district headquarters in Denton.
