Aubrey High School senior Eliana Abshier has been named a Commended Student in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, Aubrey ISD announced Sept. 23.
A Letter of Commendation from Aubrey High School and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation was presented by Aubrey High School Principal Dr. Vanessa Zavar during a surprise visit to the front office on Sept. 23, 2026, the district said. Abshier's parents, Cathie and Billy Abshier, were also present, according to Aubrey ISD.
About the recognition
About 34,000 Commended Students nationwide are being recognized for exceptional academic promise, Aubrey ISD said, citing the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Commended Students will not continue in the 2027 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, but they placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the competition by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), according to the district's announcement.
