Oakland’s Offensive Struggles Continue
The Oakland Athletics endured another scoreless outing on Saturday, falling 4-0 to the Houston Astros at Daikin Park. Despite several opportunities to break through, the visiting club could not muster any runs against a resilient Houston pitching staff. The loss extends Oakland’s winless streak in this series as they drop their record to 49-80.
The Athletics’ bats were largely silenced by Hayden Wesneski and a collective effort from the Astros’ bullpen. Oakland managed just three hits all game, with none resulting in extra-base power. The lack of production was evident early on, as the team failed to capitalize on any scoring chances against the home team’s dominant arms.
Houston Takes Control Early
Houston established its advantage in the fourth inning when Walker hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Paredes to score for a 1-0 lead. The Astros doubled their margin in the fifth inning when Alvarez doubled to center field and Allen crossed the plate. Shortly after, Paredes doubled to right field, driving in Alvarez to make it 3-0.
The scoring was finalized in the seventh inning when Alvarez doubled to shortstop, allowing Delgado to score for a 4-0 final tally. The three hits allowed by Houston starter Wesneski were all singles, highlighting the efficiency of his performance despite walking three batters.
