Early Scoring and Pitching Efforts
Los Angeles jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Grissom doubled to left, driving in Neto and Trout. Adell followed with a single to left, scoring Grissom to extend the advantage.
Houston answered in the second inning when Diaz homered to left center, a 425-foot shot that cut the deficit to 3-1. The Angels’ starting pitcher, Grayson Rodriguez, worked five innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out six batters. Mitch Farris took the loss for Los Angeles, pitching one inning and allowing three earned runs on two hits with three walks.
In the third inning, Peña homered to center, a 401-foot blast, making the score 3-2. The Angels maintained their lead until the sixth inning, when Houston’s offense erupted. Smith doubled to left, bringing Diaz and Trammell home. Smith then scored twice on wild pitches by Farris, giving Houston a 5-3 advantage.
