Rangers Offensive Spark Fades
The Texas Rangers mounted a late offensive surge on Saturday, but it ultimately fell short as the Houston Astros held on for a 5-4 victory at Daikin Park. Texas managed to tie the game and take the lead in the fourth inning, fueled by a pair of home runs, but the Astros answered back to secure the win.
The Rangers struck first in the second inning when Wade Jr. singled to right field, allowing Altuve to score and putting Smith in scoring position. The momentum shifted in the third inning when Langford homered to left field, measuring 348 feet, to tie the contest at 1-1. Shortly after, Trammell singled to left, driving in Alvarez and Walker to give Texas a 3-1 advantage.
The fourth inning proved pivotal for the Rangers. Osuna singled to right, bringing Carter home to make it 3-2. Díaz followed with a sacrifice bunt that allowed Duran to score, tying the game at 3-3.
Walker then reached on an infield single, and Peña scored to put Texas ahead 4-3. The Rangers extended their lead to 5-3 when Alvarez scored on a wild pitch by Houston pitcher Winn. The Rangers challenged the call, but the ruling on the field was upheld.
Home Runs Define the Day
Texas received significant power contributions from Langford and Díaz. Langford’s third-inning blast to left was the first home run of the game. Díaz later tied the game with a sacrifice bunt and added a solo home run in the sixth inning to right field, measuring 343 feet, which cut the Astros’ lead to 5-4.
Despite the late rally, the Rangers could not complete the comeback. The Astros had taken a 5-3 lead earlier in the fourth inning when Walker reached on an infield single and Peña scored, followed by Alvarez scoring on a wild pitch. The Rangers’ attempt to tie the game in the sixth was thwarted by Houston’s pitching staff.
