Houston’s Late Surge Secures Win
The Houston Astros overcame an early deficit to defeat the Washington Nationals 6-3 on Tuesday at Nationals Park. The victory improved the Astros’ record to 46-48, while the Nationals fell to 47-46. Nick Allen drove in three runs, and Jose Altuve provided a decisive blow with a home run in the eighth inning to seal the contest.

Washington took an early lead in the first inning when Wood homered to right center, a 419-foot shot that gave the home team a 1-0 advantage. Houston answered in the second inning when Nick Allen hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Walker to tie the game at 1-1.
The Nationals regained the lead in the third inning as Abrams hit a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Wood to score and make it 2-1. However, Houston’s offense erupted in the fourth inning. Allen singled to left field, bringing Dezenzo and Walker home to put the Astros ahead 3-2. Vázquez added insurance in the same inning with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Matthews, extending the lead to 4-2.
Houston increased its margin in the sixth inning when Vázquez singled to right, driving in Dezenzo to make it 5-2. The game remained steady until the eighth inning, when Altuve homered to left center, a 402-foot blast that extended the Astros’ lead to 6-2. The Nationals scored a final run in the ninth inning when Tena homered to right center, a 398-foot shot, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
