Late Surge Turns Tide
The Oakland Athletics completed a dramatic comeback on Saturday, rallying for four runs in the final frame to secure a 4-3 victory over the Houston Astros at Daikin Park. The win snapped a five-game skid for Oakland, who entered the night trailing by two runs before mounting their offensive surge.
Houston took control early in the game. In the third inning, Walton launched a 422-foot home run to center field, giving the away team an initial 1-0 lead. The Astros responded in the fourth when Walker scored on a double by Diaz, tying the contest at 1-1.
The score remained tight through the middle innings until Houston broke it open in the seventh. Varsho hit a 358-foot home run to left field, followed by Wade Jr. scoring on a single by Peña, pushing the Astros ahead 3-1.
Eighth-Inning Explosion
Oakland’s offense woke up in the bottom of the eighth inning against Astros reliever Bennett Sousa. The inning began with chaos as McNeil scored on a wild pitch by Sousa, with Gelof advancing to third on the same play. Although the box score lists this action twice, it represents the single scoring event that cut the deficit to 3-2.
The tying run arrived immediately after. Butler singled to right field, allowing Gelof to score from third and knot the game at 3-3. Oakland took the lead in the same sequence when Heim grounded out to shortstop; his ground ball allowed Butler to score from second base, making it 4-3.
