Late Rally Falls Short
The Houston Astros pushed hard into extra innings but could not complete the comeback, losing 4-2 to the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday at Daikin Park. Despite a spirited effort in the final frames, Houston’s offense was unable to overcome a deficit built earlier in the game, leaving the visitors with the win.
Scoring Sequence
Baltimore took the lead in the fourth inning when Beavers doubled to right field. The hit drove in Alonso, who crossed the plate to make it 1-0, while Basallo advanced to third. The Astros answered in the seventh inning. Allen sacrificed to the pitcher, allowing Dezenzo to score and tie the game at 1-1, with Spence moving to second base.
The game remained deadlocked until the 10th inning. Jackson sacrificed to first base, enabling Taveras to score and give Baltimore a 2-1 advantage. In the same frame, Alvarez hit a ground-rule double that brought Spence home from third, tying the score again at 2-2.
The Orioles broke the tie in the 11th inning. O'Neill reached on an infield single to second base, scoring Henderson for a 3-2 lead. Taveras later singled to right field, allowing Ward to score and extend the margin to 4-2.
Houston was unable to respond.
