Early Deficit Sets Tone
The Houston Astros found themselves in a difficult position early on Thursday at Daikin Park, as the Minnesota Twins capitalized on their opportunities to build a commanding lead. The game began with immediate offensive pressure from the visitors in the first inning. Bell launched a 452-foot home run to center field, driving in two runs and giving Minnesota a 2-0 advantage. The Astros managed to answer back later in the frame when Paredes grounded into a double play, allowing Altuve to score and cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Twins expanded their lead significantly in the second inning. Clemens connected on a 399-foot home run to right-center field, a three-run shot that propelled the Twins ahead 5-1. This inning proved to be the turning point, as Houston’s starting pitcher Tatsuya Imai struggled to contain the Minnesota lineup. Imai pitched 1.1 innings, allowing four hits and five earned runs while walking five batters before being relieved. He took the loss, dropping his record to 5-4.
Middle Innings Extend Lead
Minnesota continued to apply pressure in the fifth inning. Larnach singled to center field, bringing home Caratini and Keaschall to extend the Twins' lead to 7-1. The Astros attempted to rally in the sixth inning, but their efforts were limited. Loperfido singled to left field, scoring Matthews, followed by Allen singling to right to score Smith, making the score 7-3. These two runs were the only ones Houston would manage for the remainder of the game.
