Early Deficit Sets Tone

The Houston Astros found themselves in a difficult position early on Thursday at Daikin Park, as the Minnesota Twins capitalized on their opportunities to build a commanding lead. The game began with immediate offensive pressure from the visitors in the first inning. Bell launched a 452-foot home run to center field, driving in two runs and giving Minnesota a 2-0 advantage. The Astros managed to answer back later in the frame when Paredes grounded into a double play, allowing Altuve to score and cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Twins expanded their lead significantly in the second inning. Clemens connected on a 399-foot home run to right-center field, a three-run shot that propelled the Twins ahead 5-1. This inning proved to be the turning point, as Houston’s starting pitcher Tatsuya Imai struggled to contain the Minnesota lineup. Imai pitched 1.1 innings, allowing four hits and five earned runs while walking five batters before being relieved. He took the loss, dropping his record to 5-4.

Middle Innings Extend Lead

Minnesota continued to apply pressure in the fifth inning. Larnach singled to center field, bringing home Caratini and Keaschall to extend the Twins' lead to 7-1. The Astros attempted to rally in the sixth inning, but their efforts were limited. Loperfido singled to left field, scoring Matthews, followed by Allen singling to right to score Smith, making the score 7-3. These two runs were the only ones Houston would manage for the remainder of the game.

Bullpen Holds Firm

Houston’s relief pitchers worked hard to keep the game within reach. AJ Blubaugh pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out three batters without surrendering an earned run. Nate Pearson pitched one inning, giving up two earned runs on one hit. Miguel Ullola and Bryan Abreu combined for four innings of relief, with Ullola pitching two scoreless innings and Abreu allowing one earned run over two frames. Abreu finished with three strikeouts.

Closing Out the Game

The Twins’ bullpen maintained their lead in the late innings. Cody Laweryson pitched 0.2 innings, Andrew Morris pitched 1.1 innings, Taylor Rogers pitched one scoreless inning, and Yoendrys Gomez pitched one inning. All three relievers allowed no earned runs. In the eighth inning, Keaschall hit a 373-foot home run to left-center field, sealing the victory for Minnesota.

Taj Bradley earned the win for the Twins, pitching five innings with four hits allowed, one earned run, three walks, and 11 strikeouts. Andrew Morris recorded his 11th save. The final score was 8-3 in favor of Minnesota. The game drew an attendance of 29,179 at Daikin Park. With this result, the Houston Astros fall to 43-46 on the season, while the Minnesota Twins improve to 42-46.
