Houston gets only one run

The Houston Astros put runners on against Shane Bieber, but Toronto kept the damage to one run in a 3-1 Blue Jays win on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.

Bieber earned the win for Toronto after allowing nine hits and one earned run in 5.2 innings. He walked two and struck out six, improving to 3-2. Houston’s only scoring play came in the sixth inning, when Peña singled to center, bringing in Diaz and moving Peña to second and Smith to third.

Toronto builds the lead

Toronto scored first in the second inning on the game’s only home run. Kirk homered to left center, a 373-foot drive that gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Jays added two more runs in the fourth. Sánchez singled to left, and Okamoto scored on a throwing error by left fielder Trammell. On the same play, Sánchez was safe at second and Springer reached third on the error. Clement followed with a sacrifice fly to left that scored Springer, extending Toronto’s lead to 3-0.

Houston answered in the sixth on Peña’s single, but the Astros did not add another run after the score moved to 3-1.

Pitching holds the margin

Cristian Javier took the loss for Houston, falling to 1-2. He pitched six innings and allowed seven hits, three earned runs and no walks while striking out two.

Tatsuya Imai followed with three scoreless, hitless innings for the Astros. He walked none and struck out five.

Toronto’s bullpen protected the lead after Bieber. Braydon Fisher recorded his 10th hold after pitching one inning with one hit, no earned runs, two walks and no strikeouts. Brendon Little earned his first hold with 1.1 innings, no hits, no earned runs, one walk and four strikeouts.

Tyler Rogers earned his third save with one scoreless inning, allowing no hits or walks and striking out none.

The announced attendance was 22,789. Houston fell to 58-56 with the loss, while Toronto improved to 53-60.
