Clement’s 10th-inning homer sends Blue Jays past Astros, 5-4

Houston lead slips away

HOUSTON — Houston built a three-run lead in the third inning Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park, but Clement’s two-run homer in the 10th lifted the Toronto Blue Jays to a 5-4 win over the Astros.

Clement homered to left, a 391-foot drive, with Urías scoring on the play to put Toronto ahead 5-3. Houston answered in the bottom of the 10th when Alvarez singled to right and Peña scored, but Alvarez was out stretching at second. Houston challenged the call, and the call on the field was upheld.

Astros strike first

Houston’s offense did all of its early scoring in the third. Altuve opened the scoring with a 401-foot homer to left for a 1-0 lead. Walker then doubled to left, scoring Varsho, and Wade Jr. followed with a single to center that brought in Walker for a 3-0 Astros advantage.

Toronto did not score until the sixth. Okamoto singled to center, bringing in Straw to make it 3-1. Sánchez then tied it with a 398-foot homer to right, with Okamoto scoring ahead of him. The game remained 3-3 until Clement’s homer in the 10th.

Pitching keeps it close

Jameson Taillon worked 4.0 innings for Toronto, allowing six hits and three earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts. Spencer Miles followed with 2.0 innings, giving up two hits with no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts.

Mason Fluharty pitched 1.0 inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Tyler Rogers allowed one hit in 1.0 inning with no earned runs and no walks. Louis Varland pitched 1.0 inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout, earning the win to move to 4-4.

Chase Lee allowed one hit in 1.0 inning and recorded his first save.

Brown, Astros staff lines

Hunter Brown allowed three hits and three earned runs over 6.0 innings for Houston, walking two and striking out eight. Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each pitched 1.0 inning without allowing a hit or an earned run. Bennett Sousa allowed two hits and one earned run in 1.0 inning and took the loss, falling to 0-1.

The announced attendance was 27,751. Houston is 59-57 after the loss, while Toronto is 54-61 after the win.
