Texans Lead Early, But Cannot Hold Advantage
The Houston Texans opened their season with a dominant first-quarter performance, yet they ultimately fell to the Las Vegas Raiders 22-20 on Friday at Reliant Stadium. Despite building a 17-0 lead, the Texans were unable to maintain their advantage, allowing the visiting Raiders to outscore them 12-3 in the final two quarters. The game ended with Houston at 0-2 and Las Vegas at 1-1.
First Quarter Explosion
The Texans struck first with a 20-yard rushing touchdown by Woody Marks, followed by an extra point kick by Ka'imi Fairbairn. Houston extended their lead when Wade Woodaz returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown, also followed by a Fairbairn kick. The first quarter concluded with a 51-yard field goal by Fairbairn, giving Houston a commanding 17-0 lead before the halftime break.
Second Half Shift
The momentum shifted in the second quarter when Matt Gay kicked a 52-yard field goal for Las Vegas, narrowing the gap to 17-3. However, the Texans responded with a 57-yard field goal by Fairbairn, restoring their 20-3 lead entering the halftime. In the third quarter, Dylan Laube ran for a 4-yard touchdown for the Raiders, with Kansei Matsuzawa kicking the extra point.
This play reduced the Houston lead to 20-10.
