A Denton resident has been sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for a series of armed bank robberies that occurred over a four-month period in North Texas. Jonathan Mark Fleming, 41, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Richard Schell on Monday after entering a guilty plea to bank robbery charges.
Court records indicate that Fleming targeted three financial institutions in the Denton County area between November 2022 and February 2023. During each incident, he appeared dressed in an all-black ensemble that included gloves, a face mask, and ski goggles while brandishing a firearm. He withdrew approximately $450,000 in cash from the banks.
Investigators traced the crimes to specific vehicles used during the heists. Surveillance footage from the first two robberies showed a red Dodge Challenger at the scenes. For the third robbery, the suspect was seen driving a high-end Dodge Ram TRX truck. Law enforcement tracked the truck to its original dealership, where they discovered that Fleming had purchased it using a large cash down payment and traded in the red Dodge Challenger.
On February 23, 2023, officers executed a search warrant at Fleming’s apartment. He was arrested alone at the residence. Inside, authorities recovered items matching the suspect’s description from surveillance video, including black ski goggles, face coverings, a gun belt, and a black-and-gray duffel bag.
The search also uncovered significant amounts of cash still bound in original bank currency bands, multiple firearms, and two police radio scanners. Among the weapons was a Smith & Wesson handgun believed to be used in the first robbery, two AR-style rifles, and a newly purchased Glock handgun with the receipt. Bank records showed large cash deposits ranging from $19,000 to $40,000 across various accounts.
