Former vendors of the Denton Community Market, along with community members, convened a town hall meeting to address longstanding disputes with the organization’s leadership. The gathering was organized by a group that has been meeting since January and launched an online petition in early June seeking to "restore integrity" at the market. As of Friday afternoon, the Change.org petition had collected 1,090 signatures.

Attendees cited a range of operational and cultural issues. Complaints included the blocking of vendors on social media after they raised concerns about the use of artificial intelligence instead of local artists and the application of Americans with Disabilities Act policies for service animals. Participants also noted a perceived lack of local musical talent, despite a recent call for performers, and criticized the removal of LGBTQ+ pride event promotions following online criticism.

Governance structures were a primary focus. Speakers alleged that board decisions are made via private group chats without advance notice or are dictated solely by the board president. They stated there is no neutral party for dispute resolution, no meaningful board turnover in three years, and no community representation. The group also pointed to a financial analysis conducted by former vendors using publicly available tax documents.

The analysis indicated that after nearly 82% growth over five years, the nonprofit recorded its first deficit in 2024. The documents showed expenses rose 59% while revenue increased only 26%. Net assets declined from $98,798 in 2023 to $70,313 in 2024. The review highlighted that marketing spending accounted for 34.6% of 2024 expenses, up from 24.4% the previous year. Specific costs for advertising and promotion jumped 102% to $70,687, promotional items increased 959% to $9,252, and photographer fees rose 194% to $7,200.

Brigid Brammer, who has vendored at the market since its first season 16 years ago, described herself as the "lone surviving original vendor." She reported a downturn in sales and claimed customers avoid the market due to dissatisfaction with management. Brammer expressed fear of retribution for attending and stated she dislikes the "bullying" she perceives from leadership.

Organizers outlined their goals for restoring integrity, which include establishing clear policies, fair conflict resolution, board transparency, and financial stewardship. They also noted the absence of written conflict of interest, whistleblower, or document retention policies since the current board took over in 2023. Denton is about 11 miles southwest of Aubrey.

Further details regarding specific disciplinary actions or immediate board responses were not provided.
