Aubrey Mayor’s office released a February 2026 update covering two major events: a water infrastructure failure and the city’s response to Winter Storm Fern. In early January, an unexpected break in the water main prompted immediate repairs. Crews worked in cold conditions to address the issue, but extensive damage required them to pause until water levels dropped. Following coordination with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, a boil water advisory was issued for affected residents.

To support the community during the advisory, the city distributed twelve pallets of bottled water, with assistance from the Denton County Office of Emergency Management. The advisory was lifted after repairs were finished and water quality tests confirmed safety.

Subsequently, the city prepared for Winter Storm Fern by activating its emergency team and refining its winter response plans. Public works, police, and fire departments monitored road conditions as sleet and freezing temperatures created hazardous driving. Crews applied treatments when possible and later cleared ice and snow from intersections and parking lots. First responders worked over 70 hours, with staff testing generators daily to ensure vital systems remained operational.
