Officials from the nonprofit organization Giving Grace conducted a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 15 for the Love First Campus, a new development located at 5000 E. McKinney St. in Denton. Denton is about 11 miles southwest of Aubrey.

The project, identified as the Cornerstone Phase, represents a $14.6 million investment. According to a news release, the campus will house an emergency family shelter alongside a Life Skills Center. The facility aims to consolidate housing, life skills training, childcare, and various supportive services under a single roof.

Giving Grace serves individuals and families in Denton County who are currently experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. The organization noted that family homelessness in the county has increased by 93% in recent years. Last year, the group provided emergency shelter to more than 300 families.

Dawn Shapley, the chief executive officer of Giving Grace, stated that every family deserves dignity, safety, and the opportunity to thrive. She credited community support, partners, and the leadership of the County Judge and Commissioners Court for enabling the project. Shapley said the initiative aims to break the cycle of homelessness in Denton County and build a stronger future for all families.

Further details regarding the construction timeline or specific opening dates for the campus were not provided in the source material.
