Aubrey Peanut Festival parade steps off Saturday at 10 a.m.

Aubrey's 40th Annual Peanut Festival returns to Historic Downtown on Saturday, Oct. 3, with the parade scheduled for 10 a.m.

The city expects more than 200 vendors and numerous food trucks. Its Sept. 23 announcement lists live music, a petting zoo, pony rides, bounce houses, a cake walk and the peanut-spitting contest among the day's attractions.

For anyone hoping to join the parade or set up a booth, the application window has already closed. The official festival page says parade applications are closed and both regular vendor booths and food-truck spaces are sold out.

That page also carries the festival layout, parade route and road-closure maps. Check those before driving downtown, particularly if your usual route passes through the event area.

The festival celebrates a crop that helped shape Aubrey's early economy. The city points to the historic peanut dryer behind Veterans Memorial Park as a surviving connection to that agricultural past.
