The Dallas Cowboys have brought quarterback Joe Milton III back to their practice squad after he was initially let go to make room for running back Emari Demercado. Milton went unclaimed during the waiver process and chose to return to the Cowboys, even with interest from other teams for their practice squads.

Star quarterback Dak Prescott shared his enthusiasm regarding Milton's re-signing, noting the positive influence he has on the team and the quarterback group. Prescott acknowledged Milton's development during the offseason and the need to support him as he copes with the disappointment of losing the QB2 role, which he occupied for the entirety of the 2025 season.

"I thought he would’ve been picked up in the waivers. Fortunate for us, we got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better," Prescott stated, while also recognizing Milton's likely frustration but encouraging him to channel that into further improvement.

Originally drafted in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024, Milton was traded to the Cowboys before the 2025 season. His preseason showcased notable progress, as he completed 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards, achieving three touchdowns without any interceptions.

This marked a clear enhancement in his performance compared to the prior season, where he participated in four games with a completion rate of 62.5% and recorded one touchdown along with two interceptions.

With his return to the Cowboys, Milton is focused on building upon his preseason achievements and utilizing the competitive atmosphere to advance his skills as a quarterback. Prescott's guidance will be vital as Milton embarks on his third season with the team, aiming to make the most of his opportunity on the practice squad.
